DRC has been implementing protection and economic recovery programs in Azraq camp since 2016 including psychosocial support (PSS), civic participation and recreational activities for adolescents and adults. The stress associated with COVID-19 has a significantly detrimental impact on children within the camp. Household stress is often transferred to children, especially when families are living in confined spaces as is the case in Azraq camp (a one-room caravan per family). In this new project, DRC would like to provide more in-depth support to vulnerable children requiring more structured PSS services through a package of art therapy sessions.
With support from the King Frederick Foundation, DRC plans to hire a consultant or consultancy firm to support in the delivery of high quality PSS services through the development of an Art Therapy PSS Manual and the delivery of training on the manual and art therapy techniques for staff.
The consultancy aims to support DRC Jordan to develop 1 structured PSS manual (comprised of 12 sessions) on Art Therapy for children that can be delivered in person whilst adhering to social distancing. The manual must be aimed at guiding participants through the following phases:
Self-expression, which supports children to open up and discuss issues that they may not be accustomed to talk about.
Reflection, giving the chance to children to go through their thoughts, helping them reflect on their perspectives and concepts related to what they faced.
Coping Strategies, where children will be supported to identify positive coping strategies to help them deal with the emotions and challenges identified in the art therapy sessions.
The consultancy also encompasses training DRC PSS staff (5 persons) on art therapy and how to implement the developed manual within Azraq camp. Overall, the consultant is expected to:
· Develop a 12 session Art Therapy manual for children that can be delivered in person, whilst adhering to social distancing regulations (focus of sessions highlighted above).
· Develop a pre/post test to measure children’s increased resilience and well-being upon completion of the sessions.
· Develop and deliver an in-person training on basics of art therapy and the implementation of the manual to DRC PSS staff in Azraq Camp (or in Amman, to be determined).
